Separatr is about to take your breath away
Separatr is an indie pop duo originally from Bellingham, WA. In 2022, married couple Stephanie Melvin and Joe Douglas sold most of their belongings, got in a van, and headed for the east coast. Now residing in the Asbury Park, NJ scene, Separatr is touring in their camper van, playing shows all over the Northeast. Their adventurous spirit and passion for music have quickly made them a standout act in the local scene.
In a testament to their creative versatility, Separatr chose to cover Berlin's iconic song "Take My Breath Away" for the upcoming Local Summer Comp Album, set to release on September 3rd. When asked about their choice, Separatr shared:
"Last year, we played a prom-themed event and every band had to play one prom-like song in their set. Berlin's classic ballad came to mind immediately and I knew the chorus would work well with some drop D fuzz on top. The whole recording didn't take long. Sometimes you just know exactly what to do with something and it works out. This was one of those times. It's been well received every time we play it live and we're so glad it can come out on this Local Summer comp!"
Their rendition of "Take My Breath Away" bridges the past and present, honoring the original while infusing it with their unique sound. This decision not only showcases Separatr’s musical prowess but also pays homage to Berlin, a band whose influence continues to resonate in today’s music scene.
