All about the lady behind The Slow Circuit

Q: How did you get into music?

A: I grew up listening to music in the car with my dad. He used to play songs by a lot of bands with female lead singers and I wanted to be like them. My parents put me in piano lessons at school when I was 6 and voice lessons at Music University in Freehold when I was 10. I started singing in cover bands with my friends and playing some original songs with my dad and his former bandmates shortly after.

Q: Where does your sound come from?

A: All my songs start out as ballads with just piano and vocals and they emerge into full arrangements later in the recording process. I write all my songs alone in my room. I write down the lyrics and chords in my notes app and take a quick voice memo to remember what it sounds like. That sound pretty much comes from listening to alternative artists from a young age. I don’t have any specific influences that come to mind. For The Slow Circuit songs, I really owe everything to Eric Bennett for helping me find my sound.

Q: Why do you make music?

A: I make music because it is my favorite thing to do in the world. It’s a big part of who I am.

Q: What made you want to add “Weather Patterns” to the “Winter Rental?”

A: This song will be The Slow Circuit’s first release ever, so I felt some pressure to choose a song that would leave a good first impression of my music. When choosing a song, I was in between two songs that were kind of upbeat. I’ve probably listened to my demos hundreds of times, and sometimes feel like I have no concept of what they even sound like anymore (lol), so I had some people at Lakehouse vote for which one they liked.

Q: What does the future for The Slow Circuit look like?

A: I’m in the process of recording an EP that will hopefully be released this year. I think a different version of “Weather Patterns” and around four other songs will be on it. I’m currently a senior in college in Philadelphia and come home to record at Lakehouse when I can. I will always continue to make music and I’ll probably start playing live again in some local gigs eventually.
