Q+A
How did Hot Dress come together as a band?
"In high school Jason and Caleb were in one band and Max and I were in another. We were rivals and we were not fond of each other. Towards the end of my senior year, both of our bands broke up and Jason and I shared some mutual friends so I asked if he wanted to Frankenstein our old bands and jam sometime. We have been playing together (somewhat) happily ever since." - Andrew
What is "Last Week" about?
"I wrote it at a time when I was feeling very disconnected from myself mentally, it’s basically just a hodgepodge of all my anxious thoughts about the future and growing up." - Jason
What does your songwriting process look like?
It really depends on the song. Sometimes one of us has an idea for something and we just run with it on our own, writing most of the song's parts. Other times someone has chords and vocals and we just build from there at practice.
What does the future of Hot Dress look like?
The future of Hot Dress looks like more shows, more music, and more good times.
As a band, what are some things you stand for? (This can be around our political climate, human rights, etc)
As a band, we strive to actively contribute to causes we believe in within our communities. This includes participating in events such as the strike for fair wages at Rutgers and donating proceeds from our shows to various charities. We believe in human rights and equality in any capacity. Using the platform we have is important and although our lyrics aren't directly political we still aim to support others around us with the platform we have.
